YOU WILL BE FINE

Dear reader, you will be fine.

Life can be difficult, and people can be cruel.

Sometimes, you cry yourself to sleep because no one seems to understand how difficult your life is.

You try hard to be a good person, but no one seems to appreciate your goodwill. Don’t give up being and doing GOOD. What you think is a small charitable deed to someone is a life-changing act of kindness in their lives. In their heart, they are saying “thank you”. They were just too overwhelmed to say it. Trust me, they appreciate you.

The world is dark and seems to be against you.

Sometimes, the mornings are dark and dreary. You do not want to face the day ahead.

Yesterday, you tarried and only got wearied. “How different is today going to be?” you ask yourself. The last iota of hope left from your nightmares spurs you to throw the wet blanket away and get up with fervent zeal. You are ready to try again to survive. Heck, maybe you might even change the world today!

You give alms to a beggar, smile at a stranger and silence the persecutory voice in your head constantly shouting, “You’re not good enough!”.

Pivot, inviolable gentle reader, you are doing well.

Your daily drudgery forces you to reminisce. You ask yourself, “Where did it all go wrong? This is not what I wanted!”.

You wanted to be an Accountant, but now you are selling shoes in a boutique. In your youth, you dreamt and worked hard to be an Architect, yet here you are digging foundations for buildings.

You recollect an essay you wrote in school. The teacher had said, “Write a composition on your future endeavours.” A young and cheerful version of yourself burnt the midnight oil, scripting a beautiful tale of flying aeroplanes from one continent to the next.

Now, you are driving a taxi.

Dreams were drawn, but reality dawned. As they say, “adulting is a scam”.

Who is to blame?

The politicians who harangue and manipulate everyone for their own selfish gains? The devil who “steals, kills and destroys”? God, who refused to listen to your prayers? Your parents who failed to support you? The racists and sexists who placed a glass ceiling over your ambitions? Was it LIFE itself that dealt you an unfair hand in this card game called ‘destiny’?

Gentle reader, do yourself a favour. Put that finger down. Don’t cast blame. It will only drain you. Raise up your chin, smile and look into the horizon. There lies your Fate.

Keep dreaming.

Create new visions: over and over again until you hit the target. While you’re at it, never tire of doing good. Someone, somewhere, somehow appreciates what you consider to be a little gesture of goodwill.

You will be fine.
